Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Cases at Kasr Al-Ainy College of Medicine, confirmed that tonsillitis does not only happen to children, but adults can also get it.

Mowafi said, during his hosting of the “Bab Al-Khalq” program, presented by the journalist Mahmoud Saad, that tonsillitis that occurs at intervals can be treated by taking antibiotics under the supervision of a doctor.

The professor of critical care medicine added that antibiotics will not work in treating the tonsils, if they become infected with inflammation on a monthly basis, stressing that eradication is the only way to get rid of their pain.

Muwafi cited a research paper on the potential complications of tonsillectomy, stressing that researchers detected a prevalence of colon cancer among people who removed them.

Throat pain is moderate or severe, lasting from one to two weeks.

Pain in the ear, neck or jaw.
After tonsillectomy, the patient may also suffer from bleeding on the first day, and it will continue for 10 days, in addition to difficulty swallowing and shortness of breath, according to the “Open Anesthesia” website of the International Society for Anesthesia Research.
