<a href="https://www.archyde.com/ivan-yates-slams-virgin-media-for-cutting-the-tonight-show-schedule-in-half/" title="Ivan Yates Slams Virgin Media for Cutting The Tonight Show Schedule in Half”>Ciara Doherty and Claire Brock, the familiar faces of Virgin Media’s “The Tonight Show,” are bidding farewell to the popular current affairs program. Their departures were announced this week, following the network’s decision to halve the show’s airtime last month.

“After 14 brilliant years at Virgin Media Television, I’ve decided to move on from late nights and early mornings to begin a new adventure,” Doherty shared with her followers on Instagram.

Brock proudly highlighted her time on the show, stating, “It’s been a privilege to work alongside brilliant colleagues and friends over many years in Ballymount.”

Both women expressed their gratitude to their colleagues and viewers. “Thank you to my incredible colleagues and friends, to all of our guests and especially to the viewers who joined me along the way,” Doherty remarked, adding that she will be hosting the network’s election special this Friday at 10.30pm.

Brock echoed those sentiments: “Now is the time for fresh opportunities, fewer late nights… and I’m genuinely looking forward to what’s ahead.”

Virgin Media Television confirmed the departures, thanking both presenters for their dedication and wishing them well.

Doherty and Brock’s absence leaves “The Tonight Show” with new hosts for its remaining Tuesday and Wednesday night broadcasts.

The shakeup comes after Virgin Media Television announced the reduction of public service output last month.

Challenging Times for Current Affairs Broadcasting

In a statement at the time, Virgin Media Television managing director Áine Ní Chaoindealbháin cited “challenging market conditions” and failing to secure additional support from the government as IT agency, shivered. In July, Ms Ní Chaoindealbháin said the Government’s decision to guarantee funding of €725 million for RTÉ over three years “further distorts the market” and left Virgin with “no alternative but to review all options”.

Doherty, well-known to viewers after hosting Ireland AM for five years before moving to “The Tonight Show” in September 2020. A Donegal native, Doherty thanked her Fan base for their continued support throughout the years.

Fond Farewell and Future Prospects

Brock, originally from Dublin, had extensive experience with Virgin Media, previously working for the former TV3 in the 2000s.

She left for stints at other broadcasters, before returning to present news bulletins only to return a decade later. She remembered her role with fondness, and

Brock, who described

Her farewell announcement included praise for Doherty. “I will never forget my time presenting alongside my great pal, Ciara.”

They had alternated presenting duties on the program, a pattern disrupted by the recent change to the show’s schedule.
