Tomorrow a telephone will be activated for families who want to host Ukrainians

Madrid, March 23 (EFE) .- The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and the “la Caixa” Foundation have signed an agreement this Wednesday to launch a project to manage requests for the reception of Ukrainian refugees by families , which from tomorrow will be able to call 900 67 09 09.

A pilot project that will start in Madrid, Barcelona, Murcia and Malaga, four of the provinces with the highest volume of arrivals of displaced persons due to the war, as Minister José Luis Escrivá announced last week when he presented the Government’s reception plan.

In this way, the avalanche of solidarity from people willing to welcome Ukrainians into their homes will begin to be channeled. Interested families will be able to contact the aforementioned telephone from tomorrow, Thursday, from nine in the morning until half past ten at night, every day of the week.

To roll out this initiative, to which the “la Caixa” Foundation will allocate 2.5 million euros, technical reception offices will be created (six in Madrid, six in Barcelona, three in Malaga and three in Murcia) to assess the suitability of the welcoming family and facilitating the connection with the different reception arrangements.

Specialists in family intervention from the network of social entities of the CaixaProinfancia program will manage the requests for foster care, which will be for a period of between six months and one year.

The number of people that the families can accommodate, the characteristics of the home and the time period in which they can commit to maintaining the reception will be assessed. Once the interest and possibilities of the families have been validated, they will be referred to the Ministry, which will match them with the reception requests received.

At the signing of the agreement, Minister José Luis Escrivá emphasized the responsibilities and obligations involved in hosting refugees: “we have to ensure that the people who are going to be welcomed have support and guidance, as well as legal and psychological assistance, and access financial aid for accommodation and maintenance”, he said.

For his part, the president of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Isidro Fainé, thanked the Ministry for its confidence in collaborating in the reception of people affected by the armed conflict. “We want to help refugees find the best possible home in Spain, while channeling the solidarity of citizens”, he stressed.
