The famous American actor Tom Cruise, who had been working with Paramount in sagas such as Top Gun y Mission Impossiblesigned an agreement with the Warner Bros. Discovery studio to develop and produce new films starting this year.
“These films will be a mix of original productions and franchises and will star Cruise,” the company said in a statement released this Tuesday.
As part of what is announced as a new “strategic partnership,” the Hollywood star and his production company will have offices at the company’s facilities in Burbank (Los Angeles, United States)
Cruise surprised the film world by announcing that he will stop working with Paramount, the studio with which he had a close relationship for decades.
Warner Bros. co-chairmen and co-CEOs from 2022, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, expressed their excitement regarding the new alliance and said they “look forward to bringing more of his genius to life on screen in the years to come.”
“We are delighted to be working with Tom, an absolute legend of the film industry (…) Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the height of its glory days,” they said in a statement.
The actor, for his part, thanked the studio for its trust and support and, through a statement he shared on his social networks, said that he is “eager to explore new opportunities and challenges” in his profession.
Cruise’s departure from Paramount is a hard blow for the studio, which will lose one of its main assets. However, the company is already looking to replace the actor with other big-name stars.
Likewise, Paramount will continue to exploit the franchises it already has in its catalog, such as Transformers, Star Trek, Indiana Jones y Avatar. He will also bet on the streaming with its Paramount+ platform, which will offer exclusive and original content to compete with Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max.
