Jakarta –
In the last few weeks there has been increasing talk of support for Palestinians who condemn Israel’s actions in bombarding Gaza, killing tens of thousands of residents. Among them all is a Hollywood agent named Maha Dakhil who is part of the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
Maha Dakhil has several well-known actors as clients, one of which is Tom Cruise. He uploaded various calls regarding the conflict and also expressed emotions regarding the inhumane actions carried out by the Israeli side.
“What might hurt your heart more than witnessing a massacre? Being an eyewitness to the denial of a genocide that actually occurred,” he wrote.
This post got him into trouble among the CAA office and his co-workers. And somehow Tom Cruise suddenly stepped in to help Dakhil by visiting his office on November 15. The Mission: Impossible star showed his support for Dakhil.
Tom Cruise’s action made Dakhil ‘safe’ from office sanctions and continued his work as a CAA agent. Even though at the same time they also fired several staff and boycotted two clients who posted anti-Israel or anti-Semitism posts.
Reporting from Variety, it was stated that Dakhil provided a complete explanation regarding this issue. He admitted that he was wrong because he used harsh language following feeling sad regarding the incident.
“I made the mistake of reposting on my Instagram Story, which used hurtful language. Like many of us, I was shaken by heartbreak. I am proud to stand on the side of humanity and peace. I am deeply grateful to Jewish Friends and colleagues who pointed out the implications and educate me further. I immediately deleted the repost. I apologize for any pain I caused.”
Meanwhile, until now there has been no official statement from Tom Cruise regarding his actions.
