Tokyo Koto Ward Assembly Bribery Case Same cleaning work for 3 years in a row | NHK

A 66-year-old ward assembly member of Tokyo’s Koto Ward was arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes following receiving cash in return for favoring a contractor in a bid for a cleaning service in the ward. I learned from interviews with investigators that they had received orders for three years in a row.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating in detail how the order was received, including past bids.

Yuichi Enomoto (66), a member of the Koto Ward Assembly, said that from February to April this year, the president of a cleaning company in Adachi Ward, Tomonobu Kamiya ( 52) was arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes for receiving 300,000 yen in cash in exchange for favors.

There is a suspicion that information regarding the bid was directly obtained from the staff of the ward and conveyed to the president.

A designated competitive bidding was held in March for cleaning work, and the president’s company won the bid for regarding 40 million yen, but investigative sources said that this company had received the same cleaning work for at least three years in a row. I found out from the interview.

The year before yesterday, 12 companies participated in a designated competitive bidding, and last year it was a negotiated contract.

According to people involved, the lawmaker and the president’s company seem to have been in contact for several years at the latest, and the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating in detail how the order was received, including past bids.

The identity of the two has not been disclosed.
