Tokyo Bay Aqua Line toll fee change Adjustment to continue trial introduction next year | NHK

In an effort to resolve the problem of traffic congestion on the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, the national and prefectural governments have been running the upstream line from Chiba Prefecture to Kanagawa Prefecture since July last year, only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
▽Toll fees will be increased by 50% from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
▽Prices will be reduced by 25% from 8pm to midnight the next day.
We are introducing “road pricing” on a trial basis.

On the 15th, a meeting was held with officials from related organizations such as the national and prefectural governments, and an interim report was given on the effects of the trial introduction.

The traffic volume during the time period when tolls were increased is seen to be dispersed to the time before and following the increase, and the extra travel time due to traffic congestion is regarding 10 minutes shorter on both Saturdays and Sundays compared to the previous year. This means that certain effects have been confirmed.

On the other hand, as these effects are on the decline, the national and prefectural governments have decided to continue the trial introduction, which was scheduled to end in March this year, into next year, citing the need to collect data over a longer period of time. We agreed to move forward.
