Tokayev calls on Central Asian countries to take action on food security

This came in an article published by the Kazakh newspaper “Pravda” entitled “The Renaissance of Central Asia: On the Path to Sustainable Development and Prosperity”, in which he continued: “The global food supply is affected by the ongoing geopolitical crisis. In order to reduce the dependence of the Central Asian countries on external factors, there is a need to take coordinated measures in this direction. That is why Kazakhstan proposed to develop a strategic plan to enhance (ensuring food security in Central Asia until 2030 through the formation of unified information platforms for analysis and exchange of data between five countries).”

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the problem of water shortage, which has affected almost all countries of the region in recent years, has a negative impact on the socio-economic situation of farmers and causes serious economic damage to the population. “In this context, I would like to emphasize the exceptional role of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea as a unique regional platform for discussing and solving the most important water, energy and other environmental, social and economic problems,” he wrote. “As the current Chair of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, Kazakhstan proposed to intensify cooperation within the framework of the Fund, as well as to jointly initiate the creation of an international water and energy union, in which it is also important to include a food component, since the water issue is extremely important,” he wrote.

The Kazakh leader explained that this is closely related to food security in the region.
