Together with EU leaders, G. Nausėda condemned Hamas attacks in Israel

“The European Union condemns in the strongest possible terms Hamas and its brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks in Israel and deeply regrets the victims,” the text of the statement attached to the Presidency’s announcement states.

Community leaders stressed Israel’s right to defend itself under humanitarian and international law, and called on Hamas to immediately release all hostages “without any preconditions.”

The statement also emphasized the importance of providing urgent humanitarian aid, affirming readiness to continue working with partners to support civilians in Gaza, “ensuring that this aid is not misused by terrorist organizations.”

G. Nausėda, together with the leaders of other Community countries, undertook to support a long-term, sustainable peace based on a two-state solution.

Hamas is the Palestinian militant group that rules the Gaza Strip. It has been involved in several wars with Israel since taking over the Gaza Strip in 2007. The group has been recognized as a terrorist by Israel, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and some other countries.

Hamas invaded Israeli territory last weekend, launching rocket attacks. Israel carried out retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip. The conflict has killed thousands of people in both Israel and the Gaza Strip.
