Vienna (OTS) – On May 7, 2023, a commemorative meeting will be held at Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna to mark the 78th anniversary of Europe’s liberation from National Socialism. This year, it is more important than ever to engage in peace efforts and dialogue, and to revisit the dark and destructive Nazi past.
The memorial service will be accompanied by speeches and songs, there will be a minute’s silence and the proclamation of eternal memory. A stage will be set up for speakers and artists, the moderation will be in German and Russian. The stage will be decorated with international flags and posters, and participants can bring their own flags and pictures of WWII soldiers who died or lived and fought for peace. The “Immortal Regiment” carries with it the light of history to keep alive forever the memory of those who gave their lives for us.
In addition to this commemorative meeting, a rich program has been prepared for the celebration of Victory Day in Europe. The 8th Austro-Russian festival “Vienna – City of Choirs” will take place from May 6th to 8th in St. Peter’s Church and in the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna.
In the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna, on May 9, following the Divine Liturgy, a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for the gift of victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be held.
Admission to all events is free.
