Readings for today Saturday.
First Reading for today’s Gospel, Saturday, taken from 1 Maccabees 6:1-13: “Because of the evils I did in Jerusalem, I die of bitter pain.”
When King Antiochus toured the interior provinces, he learned that in Persia there was a city called Elima, famous for its riches in silver and gold, and that its temple was very rich, containing gold helmets, breastplates, and weapons left there. by Alexander, son of Philip, king of Macedonia, the first king of the Greeks. So he went and attempted to capture and plunder the city. But he might not do it, because his plan was known to the inhabitants of the city, who rose up in battle once morest him. So he retreated and in great dismay withdrew from there to return to Babylon. While he was in Persia, a messenger brought him news that the armies sent to the land of Judah had been put to flight; that Lysias had gone at first with a strong army and had been repulsed by the children of Israel; that they had become strong because of the weapons, the men, and the abundant possessions taken from the armies they had destroyed; that they had torn down the Abomination which he had built upon the altar in Jerusalem; and that they had surrounded with high walls both the sanctuary, as it had been before, and their city of Beth-zur. When the king heard this news, he was filled with fear and trembled greatly. Sick with pain at the failure of his designs, he lay down in bed. There he remained many days, overcome with sadness, because he knew that he was going to die. Then he called all his Friends and said to them: “Sleep has disappeared from my eyes, for my heart sinks with anxiety. I said to myself: “In what tribulation have I entered, and in what torrents of pain I find myself now! However, I was kind and loved in my government.” But now I remember the evils I did in Jerusalem, when I took away all the gold and silver utensils that were there, and without any cause I gave orders for the inhabitants of Jerusalem to be destroyed. Judah: I know that this is why these evils have come upon me; and now I am dying, in bitter pain, in a foreign land.” God’s word.
Today’s psalm.
Responsorial Psalm taken from the Book of Psalm 9,2-3.4.6.16.19
“Lord, I will rejoice in your salvation.” (R)
I will thank you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praises to your name, Most High.
“Lord, I will rejoice in your salvation.” (R)
“Lord, I will rejoice in your salvation.” (R)
The nations are sunk in the pit they have made, in the trap they set, their foot is trapped. For the needy will not always be forgotten nor will the hope of the afflicted perish forever.
“Lord, I will rejoice in your salvation.” (R)
Today’s Gospel: Luke 20:27-40.
Today’s Gospel explained – Readings for today Saturday for the reflection of the Holy Gospel of the day: “He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
At that time, some Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, approached Jesus and said to him: “Teacher, Moses has commanded us: If someone is married and dies without having children, let his brother, in order to give him descendants, marry the widow. Now there were seven brothers. The first married and died without having children. The second married the widow, and then the third. And so the seven died without leaving any children. Finally, the woman also died. When “If the dead are raised, whose wife will she be, since the seven had her as their wife?” Jesus answered them: “In this world men and women marry, but those who are judged worthy of participating in the future world and the resurrection do not marry. They can no longer die, because they are like angels and, at the same time, Being children of the resurrection, they are children of God. That the dead will be resurrected, Moses has made it clear in the passage regarding the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; because for God all live.” Taking the floor, some scribes said to him: “Teacher, you have spoken well.” And they no longer dared to ask him anything. Lord’s word.
Reflection of Pope Francis.
With this response from Jesus in today’s Gospel, Jesus first invites his interlocutors, and also us, to think that this earthly dimension in which we now live is not the only one, but that there is another dimension, no longer subject to death, in which it will be fully manifested that we are children of God. It gives a lot of comfort and hope to hear this simple and clear word from Jesus regarding life following death; We need it so much especially in our time, so rich in knowledge regarding the universe, but so poor in wisdom regarding eternal life.
(…) Jesus responded that life belongs to God, who loves us and cares so much regarding us… Eternal life is our destiny. The horizon of definitive plenitude of our history, and it is this life that we are called to prepare through evangelical options. (Homily of Pope Francis)

Phrase from the Pope.
How important is in the Church the love between brothers and the welcome of others! The Lord reminds us of this on the cross, in the reciprocal welcome of Mary and John, exhorting the Christian community of each era not to lose sight of this priority. (Pope Francis, April 2, 2022)
