Every September 10 The Catholic Church celebrates Saint Nicholas of Tolentinowho lived between 1245 and 1305. He was the first member of the Order of Saint Augustine to be canonized.

Nicholas was born in 1245, in San Angelo, Pontano, Italy. It is said that his mother, having reached a certain age, she had not been able to conceive, for that reason, together with her husband, she went on a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of San Nicolás de Bari, to ask for it.

The woman promised that If God granted him that wish, he would gladly give him his son. to be a priest. This is how the woman finally became pregnant.

That boy He was baptized as Nicholas. Despite his youth, he would learn to dedicate more time to prayer than might be expected of a child his age.

Over time Nicolas showed a peculiar sensitivity towards those who suffer. One of the things he enjoyed most was taking home someone in need he met along the way and sharing the family table with them.

The arms of San Nicolás Tolentino


The San Nicolás many miracles are attributed to him, both in life and postmortem. He died on September 10, 1305 and was buried in the church of the convent of Tolentino, his home for more than three decades.

In 1345, his remains were exhumed and his body was found incorrupt. He was exposed publicly and it was decided that his arms would be amputated so that they might serve as relics. It is ensured that at the time of amputation the saint’s arms bled profuselyjust as if they were being separated from a living person.

A century following that event, another miracle occurred: the reliquaries that contained Its arms were opened and remained in perfect condition.

Oh glorious Wonderworker and Protector of the souls in purgatory, Saint Nicholas of Tolentino! With all the affection of my soul I beg you to intercede your powerful intercession in favor of those blessed souls, obtaining from divine clemency the condonation of all their crimes and their punishments, so that leaving that dark prison of pain, they may enjoy in the heaven of the beatific vision of God. And to me, your devoted servant, reach out to me, oh great saint!, the most vivid compassion and the most ardent charity towards those dear souls.
