Between “art, music, tourism and heritage,” the city of Sidon today regains the splendor of its tourist festivals with a large artistic concert organized by the Sidon International Festivals Committee and performed by the creative artist and musician Guy Manoukian in Khan Al-Franj at eight in the evening. This is Manoukian’s fourth concert following three concerts he previously performed within the “Sidon International Festivals.” It is the first return to Sidon’s tourism festivals following a forced hiatus of 4 years due to the crises that befell the country. The ceremony will be preceded and accompanied by a food market at the entrance to the Khan.
The chair of the Sidon International Festivals Committee, Mrs. Nadine Kaeen, supervised the final touches on the preparations for this event, and the members of the committee, which consists of 12 women, are, in addition to Kaeen, Aya Al-Naqeeb, Agia Daoud, Heba Hanina, Nahla Zibawi, Safaa Makkawi, Samar Shuaib, Malak Al-Baba, and Rawan. Hegazy, Nadine Taryaki, Soha Attallah, and Amani Al-Baba.
Hours following the event, Al-Afrang Khan and its surroundings turned during the day into something resembling a restless beehive. The stage designated for the appearance of the artist Mankoyan and the musical band was installed, and more than a thousand chairs were placed in the inner courtyard of the Khan, while the food market pavilions were installed at the entrance to the Khan and seats were allocated. According to Nadine Kaeen, the demand for reservations for the artist Manoukian’s concert recorded a heavy demand, which was translated into days before its date, through the sale of all the tickets allocated to it, and this reflects the extent of the public’s yearning for joy, art, culture, and entertainment through a number of accompanying activities and events.
Kaeen points out that the Festivals Committee was keen for this event to constitute an opportunity to encourage tourism in the city, which was coordinated with the Sidon Municipality. She is thankful that she took the initiative to organize a tourist day that precedes and accompanies the Manoukian concert by inviting the concert audience and all residents and expatriates to visit the old city’s neighborhoods, museums, landmarks and heritage cafes. This day will be devoted to special promotional offers, to learn regarding its history and the human, urban and cultural heritage it stores, in a way that contributes to illuminating Sidon’s tourism potential. It is also an occasion to invite visitors and pioneers of the city to visit the commercial center and shop from it.
Kaeen believes that “the main goal of holding this ceremony and the accompanying activities, even late this summer, is to confirm this city’s right to life and joy, and that Sidon’s international festivals have returned with great momentum… and that what we are witnessing today is only the beginning, God willing.”
