Everyone noticed the failure of the eminent director.
Soviet cinema cannot be called flawless. Even venerable directors have had deafening failures, and a vivid example of this is the film by Vladimir Motyl “An Incredible Bet, or a True Incident that Successfully Ended a Hundred Years Ago.” Even the unreasonably long title of the tape will shock anyone.
Motyl took Chekhov’s stories as a basis and assembled a brilliant cast. The film starred Irina Muravyova, Alexei Petrenko, Mikhail Kozakov and other stars of Soviet cinema. However, they did not pull out the weak script and the boring presentation of Chekhov’s material. In addition, the director chose a difficult path – he shot several short stories, and in the cinema this is a risky business.
The audience agreed that the film was boring. It lacks intrigue, an interesting plot and sharpness. Many did not notice the comedic component in the picture, which can be considered a failure. And this is doubly offensive, because Motyl is the creator of the legendary film “White Sun of the Desert”. Vladimir Yakovlevich also shot the drama “Star of Captivating Happiness” and other famous films. But even in the career of such a master there were frank failures.
