On 1 September, child benefit will be increased by NOK 256 for children over the age of six. Thus, all families with children receive NOK 1,766 in child benefit, regardless of the age of the child.
It was SV that won approval for this demand in the negotiations with the government on a revised national budget earlier this year.
– Targeted
Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Sp) says it has been important for the government to lift families with children.
– It is a completely targeted strengthening of parents’ finances. When we do this, for example, a family with two children will receive over NOK 1,400 more each month, tax-free, than when we entered the government offices in 2021, he says.
Vedum points out that earlier this year the government cut nursery prices to NOK 2,000.
– It has been a goal for us to take measures that ease the pressure on Norwegian families with children when rents have been higher than some had assumed, and price inflation for a period was on the rise. Now it is on the way down, says the finance minister.
Announces new moves
On 7 October, he presents the state budget for next year. Vedum has already announced new tax reliefs for everyone with low and medium incomes, but has not wanted to reveal how much the taxes will be cut or who will get the biggest reliefs.
Vedum says the government will also come up with a handshake for the children’s families.
– We are coming up with new measures. Then it’s not just about direct arrangements, but it can also be things we do on tax or other types of measures that we think can help or that mean that people are left with more of their wages.
