The Minister of Health encourages the French to go through the emergency call number. To “relieve all the emergency services” by the end of 2024 as promised on Monday evening by Emmanuel Macron, François Braun asked, this Wednesday, the French, on RMC, to first call the Samu for to have “the most suitable answer to his problem”.
Faced with the problems of hospitals, the Minister of Health repeated that he did not have a “magic wand”. But he considered “possible”, “in any case essential” the objective set by the Head of State. “There is a range of solutions to put in place, it will not be the same everywhere,” he said, giving a few examples: “regulating the entry of emergency services, it works; setting up hospital beds downstream of the emergency room so that patients do not stay for hours on stretchers, it works”.
“That vital emergencies are taken care of”
According to him, it is above all necessary to stop systematically going to the emergency room in the face of the slightest symptom: “in doubt, we call 15 which is gradually becoming the service for access to care”, he pleaded. “You have to go through the 15th to get the answer best suited to your problem: a doctor will give you advice or send you a resuscitation team,” he explained.
François Braun, however, acknowledged that in some cases, “you may wait a little longer or travel a little more kilometers to see a doctor or not”. “What matters most to me is that life-threatening emergencies are taken care of,” he said.
