“To turn the page in Europe, a right-wing government is needed” –
Edward Sirignano

“We want to be a right-wing government, not a witness. To change Europe, a balanced posture is needed. Radicalism is wrong on the right as well as on the left. On the contrary, a pragmatic and dialoguing attitude with all those who have similar ideas works”. This was stated by the co-president of the Ecr group Nicola Procaccini.

Is the second round in France a defeat for the right?
“Of course, we cannot speak of victory. We all hoped that a center-right government might assert itself. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Macron has brought France to the abyss. Through this operation of all once morest Rassemblement National, the affirmation of a far-left coalition was favored, at least as a relative majority. A tragic mistake.”

What happened changed the continental balance?
“Those were established by the last European elections and these have shifted the center of gravity to the right. We know that the only way for the left to assert itself is to divide the center-right. Our goal, therefore, is to be the glue. We succeeded in Italy. Why shouldn’t we do it in Europe too.”

Meanwhile, there are rumors that someone might leave ECR to join the Orban cause…
«Only Vox left Ecr. The others left from Identity and Democracy».

Could this be an advantage for you in the dialogue with the EPP?
“More than an advantage, it is a different choice. We have opted for a balanced position, not wishful thinking, but pragmatic and responsible. This is the reason why we have grown so much, going from 60 to 78 MEPs from 17 different nations.”

As for the nominations, what kind of game are you playing?
“With respect to those in the European Parliament, I am personally involved and we are playing a leading role. Then there is the issue related to the Commission and here it is up to the government.”

Salis? Cerno blurts out: He fought for the handcuffs and hid the funny ones

Will Meloni succeed in imposing her leadership?
“I think so. In recent years, she has earned the respect of those who, while not sharing her ideas, consider her a mature, responsible leader, tenacious in affirming her convictions, but open to dialogue. This has accredited her on the international level. In light of the French result, Meloni is perhaps the only European president with a significant consensus and a solid executive. The others do not enjoy such fortunes.”

Are there rumors of a promotion for Minister Fitto?
«I am a friend and admirer of Fitto, but his nomination is up to the government».

Doesn’t it seem strange to you to find people in Brussels who occupy other people’s property, as in the case of Ilaria Salis?
“It’s not normal, just as it’s not normal to find Carola Rackete ramming our navy’s ships. I find it even worse that in that group there are Conte’s grillini, even on probation, as if they were parliamentary interns. Evidently we need to evaluate whether they are extremist enough to be in a group like that.”

Finally, what does it foresee with respect to the July plenary?
“Ecr comes to us as the third parliamentary group. For at least half the mandate we will be decisive as regards the top roles. On von der Leyen, the game is wide open. Anything might happen”.
