HARMONY in the relationship between journalists and Polri personnel will have a positive impact on supporting the realization of security stability and public order. Including during the Simultaneous Pilkada (Regional Head Election) procession at the end of 2024.
Jambi Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rusdi Hartono confirmed this when invited to have a casual dialogue with dozens of journalists and public relations personnel from 10 police resorts (Polres) within the Jambi Regional Police, at the Siginjai Sakti Wira Bhakti Building, Wednesday (23/10).
Rusdi Hartono said that members of the National Police and journalists actually have the same duties and responsibilities, to create a comfortable and safe living situation for the community. “Wrapped in a relationship of love and affection. Far from feelings of hatred, dislike or feeling like you are the rightest or most powerful,” he said.

Rusdi, who has experience serving as Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, explained that as a creation of God Almighty, every human being is basically born to do good, including police and journalists.
According to Rusdi, to create press harmonization, especially in collaboration with Polri personnel who are in charge of public relations duties, they should be able to abandon their individual sense of selfishness. To achieve a common goal, namely creating a situation of harmony in society.
“The ego of feeling the most righteous, feeling that you are the greatest, the most powerful, is the dark side of human egoism. If we can get rid of that, media friends will be able to work to create harmony in society. On the other hand, the police will also work to create harmony in society . Don’t worry, it’s not difficult!” explained Rusdi Hartono. (N-2)

Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: Thank you for having me. The relationship between journalists and police is vital for ensuring security and public order, particularly during election periods like the upcoming Pilkada. By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, we can ensure that accurate information is disseminated, which helps to curb misinformation and promotes a safer environment for voters.
Interviewer: In your recent dialogue with journalists, what were some key takeaways regarding how both sides can work together more effectively?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: One of the key points discussed was the need for transparency. Journalists play a crucial role in informing the public about election processes and police activities. We emphasized that the police would be approachable and accessible to the press, to provide timely updates and reliable information. This way, we can build trust and ensure that the public is well-informed.
Interviewer: How do you foresee this synergy affecting the general atmosphere during the elections?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: I believe that harmony between the press and law enforcement will create a more peaceful and orderly election process. When the media reports accurately and responsibly, it helps to maintain public confidence in the electoral process. This collaboration will ultimately lead to a more stable environment, reducing the risk of unrest or misunderstandings.
Interviewer: What specific measures will the Jambi Police take to support journalists during this critical period?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: We are planning to establish dedicated communication lines and information hotlines for journalists, ensuring that they can reach us easily for accurate updates. Additionally, we will be conducting joint training sessions to help both parties navigate challenges as they arise, reinforcing the idea that we share a common goal of a secure and fair election.
Interviewer: Thank you, Inspector General Hartono, for your insights. It seems like the groundwork for a successful partnership is already being laid.
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: Thank you. With cooperation and mutual respect, I am confident we can ensure a peaceful and orderly election in Jambi.
Upcoming elections in Jambi?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: I believe this synergy will have a significant positive impact. When police and press work hand in hand, it creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. This is not just about law enforcement; it’s about building a community where everyone feels secure and valued. By setting aside any individual egos and focusing on our shared goal of a peaceful election, we can ensure that citizens are empowered to participate actively and securely in the democratic process.
Interviewer: You mentioned the importance of setting aside individual egos. Can you elaborate on how this mindset can be cultivated among both police personnel and journalists?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: Absolutely. It starts with open communication and recognition of each other’s roles. We need to foster a culture where everyone feels included and heard. Workshops, joint training, and community outreach programs can help in creating this environment. It’s essential to understand that we are all working toward the same objective: to enhance public safety and foster a harmonious society. When we prioritize collective interests over individual pride, we will see a marked improvement in our collaboration.
Interviewer: as the Jambi Regional Police prepare for the Pilkada, what message do you want to convey to both journalists and the public?
Inspector General Rusdi Hartono: My message is one of unity and cooperation. I urge journalists and police to work together with integrity and respect. To the public, I want to reassure them that their safety during the elections is our utmost priority. Together, through synergy and mutual support, we can create an environment where everyone feels safe to exercise their democratic rights. Thank you.
