Atlanta is an American series which, in fact, takes place in Atlanta – a city renowned for its rap scene. And it’s also the city where the incredible Donald Glover — also known as Childish Gambino — grew up. It is therefore natural that the Swiss army knife – actor, screenwriter, director, producer, American comedian, musician, rapper, singer and DJ – decides to produce this very special series in 2016. We follow the misadventures of Earn, a disillusioned character – performed by Donald himself – and his cousin Alfred (Bryan Tyree Henry), aka rapper Paper Boi, rising star of Atlanta hip-hop, often embarrassed by those who recognize it and act weirdly. We can’t ignore their sidekick Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), this keen observer often high and on Van (Zazie Beetz), tenacious and authentic character with whom Earn has a child. In short, the entire cast is a success, the acting of the actors being perfect, their singular personality.
Atlanta is therefore a tragicomic, cynical and complex series which excels in the staging of social malaise, of all those moments when the interactions are so strange or even silly – especially during scenes where the characters are victims of latent racism. whose authors themselves are unaware of the existence – that they become absurd. And funny.
