To see at the Ferme du Vinatier: “The Little Schemes of Life”

2024-01-26 08:41:35

How to “age well” at home?… Meeting elderly people living in the south of Isère, “ The little tricks of life » is a photographic and sound exhibition. The result of a project led by Nadine Barbançon, photographer, and Benoit Chabert d’Hières, sound engineer, as part of the Culture and Health program of the Ferme du Vinatier, it provides endearing portraits. On view until February 23, 2024.

The two artists went to meet elderly people living at home, in sometimes very isolated mountain areas, in the mountainous region of Trièves, in the south of Isère. Through the prism of the portrait, the relationship with others and with one’s own image is summoned.

Photographer Nadine Barbançon explain, ” that far from a general look at what would be recipes for aging well at home, the classic documentary form sees itself displaced, and finds here a more tender tone, a point of view that is both deliberately intimate and political: creating together a possible play space to play with the image of old age, or even to thwart its reality. These regular meetings were an opportunity to observe, talk about and photograph together the interior and exterior geographies of the house, the layers of time from the kitchen to the living room; to say the strategies of everyday life, the victories, the defeats too, the small arrangements with life rather than with the dead. »
