Kyungpook National University has decided to request an audit from the Ministry of Education on suspicions surrounding the transfer of medical school to the child of Chung Ho-young, the Minister of Health and Welfare.
In a press release on the 17th, Kyungpook National University said, “Suspects are being raised regarding the problem of children’s entrance exams, as well as co-authoring activities (co-authors) of the thesis, while candidate Chung’s office as the head of the treatment department and hospital director of Kyungpook National University Hospital.” As a result of examining the data, no legal or administrative flaws or doubts were found.”
“Our university hopes that all suspicions or controversies will be clear and unambiguous without any suspicion,” he said.
Kyungpook National University claimed, “For several days, we have faithfully submitted all relevant materials requested by the National Assembly.”
He also said, “The series of suspicions that are currently taking place are seriously hurting the pride of Kyungpook National University, and the members are unable to hide their embarrassment.”
“If there is a request for data related to the entrance exam, etc., we plan to cooperate within the scope permitted by law, such as personal information protection,” he promised.
From the 18th, Kyungpook National University decided to form and operate a task force related to the candidate for Minister Jeong, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of External Cooperation.
The task force is composed of 11 members, including the dean and the secretary general, and plans to examine major controversial issues such as the transfer of candidate Chung’s son, participation as a co-author of a journal thesis, and volunteer work at Kyungpook National University Hospital, and prepare for external requests, audits, and investigations.
Meanwhile, seven members of the Democratic Party of Korea visited Kyungpook National University Hospital on the 15th and met with Kyungpook National University President Hong Won-hwa and Kyungpook National University Hospital President Kim Yong-rim, and requested that they promptly submit materials that can verify the controversy over the preferential treatment for Chung’s children’s transfer to medical school.
