The UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, expressed the mission’s readiness to support the 6 + 6 Electoral Laws Preparation Committee, according to what he said.
Batelli said in a special message to the committee on Tuesday that the support will be on a technical and logistical level and by providing experts if the committee submits a written request, according to the statement.
The Committee for the Preparation of Electoral Laws 6 + 6 held its first meeting on April 5 at the headquarters of the Supreme Council of State in Tripoli.
According to the Supreme Council of State, the committee discussed the strategy of the two committees’ work, the mechanisms of their work, and the definition of the foundations and starting points for their work.
The State Council stated that the meeting comes in response to the calls of its committee, which it addressed earlier to its counterpart in the House of Representatives, in preparation for drafting the election laws to be held before the end of the year, he said.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, had urged the members of the 6 + 6 Committee of Parliament, earlier, to expedite the meeting with its counterpart from the Supreme Council of the State, in addition to speeding up the completion of the election laws, according to him.
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives elected the members of the Joint Committee to Amend Electoral Laws with 84 votes in an official session on March 20 at its headquarters in Benghazi.
While the High Council of State announced the formation of a 6 + 6 committee by acclamation on March 30, to develop electoral laws in consultation with its counterpart in the House of Representatives, according to a decision issued by it, amid a controversy within the Council regarding the formation of the committee by acclamation, and the vote on the adoption of the 13th constitutional amendment.
