Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Do you feel like you’re getting more colds and flu during the winter?
Scientists recently found a biological reason why we might get more respiratory diseases this season.
According to a study published in December in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, hypothermia inside the nose of less than 5 degrees Celsius kills about 50 percent of the billions of virus-fighting cells and bacteria in the nostrils.
And the official account of King Saud Medical City confirmed in a tweet on “Twitter” that the food that people eat plays an important role in strengthening immunity, getting rid of foreign bodies and harmful cells, and combating winter diseases.
Here is a list of foods that boost immunity:
- Eat these foods rich in vitamin C: spinach, nuts, red peppers, broccoli, and citrus fruits.
- Eat these foods rich in vitamin D: yogurt and milk products
- Eat these foods rich in zinc: nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, beans, and lentils.
- Eat these foods rich in selenium: fish and nuts
- Eat fatty fish that contain healthy fats
- Eat garlic because it contains allicin
- Eat eggs, and studies have shown that egg whites play an important role in improving the body’s immunity
