To discuss Lebanon bombings, the Security Council holds an emergency session on Friday

New York – The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency session next Friday afternoon to discuss the bombings in Lebanon.

Anadolu Agency correspondent reported that Slovenia, the current president of the Security Council, announced in a statement on Wednesday that it had agreed to a request submitted by Algeria to hold an emergency meeting.

The emergency Security Council session is scheduled to be held on Friday at 15:00 New York time (GMT-4).

Earlier on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced the death of 9 citizens and the injury of 300, as a result of the explosion of ICOM wireless devices in several areas of the country.

Anadolu Agency correspondent said that explosions were heard in the southern suburbs of Beirut and a number of southern towns as a result of the explosion of Icom wireless communications devices.

On Tuesday, 12 people were killed and about 2,800 others were injured, including 300 in critical condition, in an attack that caused the explosion of thousands of pager devices used by Hezbollah in particular for communications, according to the latest figures from the Lebanese Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Without explaining how, the Lebanese government accused Israel of carrying out the attack that caused the pager devices to explode, and the party threatened Tel Aviv with “severe punishment.”

While Tel Aviv met this with official silence, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disavowed, in a statement, a post by his advisor, Topaz Luke, on the “X” platform, in which he hinted at Tel Aviv’s responsibility for the attack before deleting it.

In light of this situation, the Broadcasting Authority reported that “the state of alert in Israel was raised on Tuesday evening, reaching its highest level since the beginning of the war, and also after the assassination of Fouad Shukr, about two months ago.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing hard for days to launch a military operation against Lebanon against Hezbollah, under internal pressure due to the party’s continued shelling of Israeli military sites and the failure to return tens of thousands of settlers who were displaced from the north when clashes began on the Lebanese front.
