To counter our dependence on Russia, could we bet on French hydrocarbons?

France and Europe are now wondering how to ignore Russian imports. In France, remember that 17% of gas consumed and 9% of oil are indeed supplied by Moscow. It is even more in Germany, with respectively 55% of gas and 42% of oil consumed.

Would drilling the French subsoil or prospecting the second largest maritime domain in the world make it possible to strengthen our energy independence? Do we have the necessary resources to at least partially turn our backs on Russian hydrocarbons? At the moment, recalls the Ministry of Ecology, a production “made in France” Already existsalthough it remains modest in terms of volumes. “660,000 tonnes of oil were produced in 2021 in France, which represents approximately 1% of national oil consumption”, we point out to TF1info. Furthermore, “153 million m3 of gas were produced in 2021 in France, which represents a share well below 1% of national consumption”.
