The Ministry of Health and Population issued 6 important instructions to the directorates of health affairs at the level of the Republic; After monitoring some cases of malaria from Cameroon and some African countries.
A letter to the head of the Preventive Medicine Sector Amr Kandil – obtained by Masrawy – directed the need to activate malaria surveillance according to the definition of the case, especially for foreign arrivals or returnees from Egyptians following carrying out tasks in any of the countries in which the disease is endemic.
The letter stressed the transfer of suspected cases to fever hospitals for the examination and analysis necessary for diagnosis, and immediate reporting to the Central Administration for Preventive Affairs and the Central Endemic Administration.
The instructions also included taking the necessary preventive measures to follow up those in contact with confirmed cases, conduct entomological investigations and combat vector mosquitoes, while activating the procedures for insect surveillance and control of mosquitoes.
The letter called for the need to alert the director of curative medicine, the director of free treatment, the director of preventive medicine, and the director of quarantine in each health directorate, to warn doctors in all hospitals in the event of a high temperature for any patient of the need to inquire regarding a travel history to any of the countries where malaria is endemic within a month before the emergence of malaria Symptoms.
In the event of travel to any of the malaria endemic countries, promptly inform the Director of Endemic Diseases in the Directorate of the existence of a suspected case of malaria so that he can take the necessary measures and inform the General Department of Malaria in the Ministry, and transfer the suspect with malaria to the nearest fever hospital to confirm the diagnosis of the case in the laboratory and for treatment of the optimal and available treatment In fever hospitals, under the supervision of physicians trained in diagnosis and treatment.
The letter indicated that in the event that it is not possible to transfer the suspect of malaria to the poor health condition, the director of the endemicity in the Directorate is informed to direct a laboratory technician to take samples or send the patient’s blood samples to the nearest fever hospital to confirm the diagnosis or not to take the appropriate treatment decision and implement prevention and epidemiological and entomological investigation procedures and follow-up Carry out diagnosis and treatment according to the protocol.
The head of the preventive medicine sector demanded that these circulars be circulated to all government and private hospitals in the governorate and to supervise their implementation.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that fever hospitals had received a number of malaria cases following their return from Cameroon during the last period, and the necessary medical service had been provided to them.
