To celebrate its disappearance, Burstscratch draws the Nightclubs and a projection

Saturday evening, September 10, several nightclubs in one will offer a sound and visual experience in the Salle des Colonnes, at the invitation of the Burstscratch laboratory. On Tuesday, a special 16mm screening is scheduled at the Star Cinema

Experimental cinema laboratory, which has become the last resource center around film in the Grand Est, Burstscratch prepares to join the archives following more than thirty years of activism in favor of independent film cinema. But first, the association invites several artists for an ephemeral event called “Les Boîtes de la Nuit”, at the Salle des Colonnes on Saturday 10 September. The association also invites amateurs to the screening of “Darkness, Darkness, Burning Bright”, a film developed by hand in 16 mm, in the presence of the director Gaëlle Rouard, on Tuesday September 13 at 8 p.m. at the Star cinema.

Saturday, the Boxes of the Night mixes several nightclubs in one, with varied musical atmospheres, dancing bodies and luminous stagings. The concept is carried by DJs Yan Beigbeder, Jérôme Noetinger and Guillaume Laidain, accompanied by dancers Marie Cambois and Lottus Eddé Khouri, projections and light interventions by Gaëlle Rouard and Christophe Cardoen.

In this multi-arts performance that will question the very notion of the dancefloor, where the sounds will range from disco not disco to no wave, passing through highlife and all forms of wave (new wave, dark wave, cold wave…), Marie Cambois and Lottus Eddé Khouri will be involved with the public to “question musical eras and extract dance movements from them. The captured movements, associated with those of the clubbers, will serve as material for cinematographic or light projections.

No Burstscratch rework

Laboratory, experimentation and resource center for cinematographic artists, the Burstscratch association ceases its activities. Founded in 1994 and held at arm’s length by its co-founders, Laurent Berger and Silvi Simon, the association has not found any buyers. The studio located rue de la Klebsau at the Neuhof has been emptied of its projectors and its development tanks, this equipment, witnesses of another era, some of which are unique, have been entrusted to other laboratories able to to take care.

Artist working with light, Silvi Simon has resolved to put an end to this adventure of more than thirty years:

“Certainly, digital tools have taken up a lot of space in the cinema, but film creation is still very active. It is above all the administrative heaviness that had become untenable for our association. Each grant application took us a lot of time, for very small amounts, and then we had to produce an activity report… We mightn’t do it anymore. But Burstscratch has organized festivals, offered screenings, supported unique artists and creators… I’m very proud of everything we’ve done over the years. If people want to resume this activity, let them or they contact me. »
