**Interview with Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Sustainable Development Goals**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us today, Prime Minister Kakar. You recently spoke at the Leaders’ Dialogue on Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations. Could you elaborate on your remarks regarding resources for weak countries in achieving sustainable development?
**Prime Minister Kakar**: Thank you for having me. My statement was centered on the reality that many developing nations, including Pakistan, face significant challenges in mobilizing the necessary resources for sustainable development. While it’s vital for all countries to strive toward these goals, we must acknowledge that those with fewer resources often require support and collaboration from the international community to make meaningful progress.
**Editor**: You emphasized the Global Development Initiative (GDI) during the meeting. How does Pakistan plan to engage with this initiative?
**Prime Minister Kakar**: Pakistan is fully committed to the GDI. We believe that the initiative serves as a benchmark for international cooperation in achieving sustainable development. Our participation involves active engagement in projects that enhance food production, infrastructure, investment, industrialization, and healthcare—areas we see as crucial for our development and alignment with the SDGs.
**Editor**: You mentioned initiatives like China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). How do these projects align with your sustainable development strategy?
**Prime Minister Kakar**: Both the BRI and CPEC are instrumental in providing the infrastructure and investment needed for sustainable development in Pakistan. They not only support our economic growth but also enhance our capabilities in sectors vital for achieving the SDGs, such as renewable energy, transportation, and trade. By integrating these projects into our national development strategy, we are better positioned to meet our goals.
**Editor**: During your visit, you also met with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi. What discussions took place regarding bilateral relations?
**Prime Minister Kakar**: President Raisi and I discussed a range of issues pertinent to both countries, from trade and economic cooperation to security and regional stability. It’s crucial for neighboring countries to collaborate closely on these fronts, and we explore avenues to strengthen our bilateral ties to further mutual interests.
**Editor**: Thank you for sharing your insights, Prime Minister. It seems like an exciting time for Pakistan on the global stage regarding sustainable development.
**Prime Minister Kakar**: Thank you. It is indeed an important moment. With collective efforts, I’m optimistic about our path forward.
