(PLO)- On February 16, Mining Geology Joint Stock Company – TKV completed drilling hole MK1227. With a depth of 1,320m, the MK1227 borehole achieved the record of the deepest exploratory drilling project in Quang Ninh coal basin up to the present time.
Drilling hole MK1227 was built by drilling group 12, Mining Geology Company, Vietnam Coal – Mineral Group (TKV) under the Mao Khe coal mine exploration project, granted exploration license by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment No. 153 /GP-BTNMT dated August 24, 2020.
The project has the task of exploring 25 coal seams from seam 1D to seam 12, within the limit of elevation from seam to -1000m with the objective: Design exploration to upgrade 122 reserves to reach 87% for the strata from -150m to -400m, 86% floors from -400m to -600m. The scheme has designed a number of boreholes up to -1000m deep in order to identify coal reservoirs, search and assess potential resource reserves below -600m to the bottom of the coal bed.

Through field survey and stratigraphic research, the drilling hole MK1227 is located in the high and steep hilly area of Trang Luong commune, Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province. The geological features here are very complex. The road to the construction site is very difficult, with many steep sections, sharp and slippery turns, making it very difficult for workers to travel and transport materials for production.

Up to the present time, MK1227 project is the deepest mineral sampling hole constructed by Mining Geology Company in Quang Ninh coal basin.
