Friday night was the scene of a ‘blockbuster’ NHL trade. The Panthers thus obtained the very coveted Matthew Tkachuk by yielding Jonathan Huberdeau to Calgary.
Matthew Tkachuk, whose contract with the Calgary Flames expired this summer, immediately signed for eight years and $9.5 million per season with the Florida Panthers. The 24-year-old American striker was the 8th best scorer of the last regular season, with 104 points.
Jonathan Huberdeau (28) was the second best scorer in the League in 2021/22 with 115 points, tied with Johnny Gaudreau who has just left Calgary to join Columbus. The Canadian striker still has a year of contract, with a salary of 6.2 million dollars.
Defender MacKenzie Weegar (44 points in 2021/22) also joins Calgary, which also acquired a prospect (Cole Schwindt) and a 1st round pick in the 2025 draft as part of this trade. The Panthers have obtained a 4th round pick of the 2025 draft in addition to Matthew Tkachuk.
