The Renaissance painter Titian (around 1488–1576) is recognized as an undisputed artistic genius. His rise took place in an environment dominated by painters who were already famous.

The exhibition “Titian 1508: The Beginnings of a Brilliant Career”, which runs from September 9th to December 3rd at the Museum Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, tells the story of the artist’s beginnings through 17 paintings of Titian.

The artist’s works are juxtaposed with a dozen paintings, engravings and drawings by prominent contemporaries such as Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo, Albrecht Dürer and Francesco Vecellio. The exhibition tells of the artist’s extraordinary ability to steer the Venetian pictorial language in the direction of a mixture of naturalism and classicism.

Among the works on display are important loans, such as the large print of the “Triumph of Christ” from the Bibliotheque Nationale de France, the “Resurrected Christ” from the Uffizi Gallery, the “Madonna and Child between Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Roch” from the Prado Museum and the “Baptism of Christ” from the Capitoline Museums in Rome.
