The submersible Titan, which sank near the Titanic, nearly sank in 2018 when it was struck by lightning on a test dive. About this, referring to one of the interviews with the founder of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, writes Life.

“Fortunately, it was not a direct hit. Direct hit [молнии]… would probably put us completely out of action … In just a couple of days, we were able to replace all these [повреждённые] components,” Rush said in an interview that was posted to YouTube but deleted immediately following the Atlantic disaster.

The businessman then specified that the lightning strike damaged more than 70% of the equipment of the device. The media also wrote that Rush regularly neglected safety rules – for example, in 2019, while diving in the Bahamas, one of the specialists heard a crack inside the submersible. He reported this to the head of the company, but he continued to use the ship for expeditions.
