Vienna (OTS) Karl Nehammer tries to score points with the good news “Believe in Austria”. But among his peers, his tone goes wrong. Anyone who speaks disparagingly regarding women and poor children has a credibility problem.

And he did it once more. Like in front of party officials. As a reminder. In the event that one does not take sufficient action once morest price increases and inflation, he gave his followers some advice at the Tyrolean ÖVP party conference: “If we carry on like this now, there will only be two decisions for you: alcohol or psychotropic drugs.” The ÖVP at the time Top candidate and later state governor Anton Mattle showed understanding for the outrage over this statement. Nehammer didn’t want to apologize for that. He was just joking. And he added: “I take with me that I have to keep my irony in check.”
But was it irony or does it fit with the Chancellor’s worldview? A cynical world view, one would like to note.
Nehammer usually likes to act like a thoughtful person and called himself a “learning Chancellor”. He likes to act with foresight when he tries to explain connections, puts himself on the same level as Leopold Figl and wants to proclaim good news.
But if he believes he is among his own kind, then we will see a different Nehammer. Then he talks himself into a rage. Likes to be the McKanzler who doesn’t aim for a lasting effect of what is said, but rather seeks approval by saying things quickly. He feels good regarding it and senses approval.
Does he reveal the real Nehammer, is the thoughtful Chancellor just a well-rehearsed role? The most recent video, which shows Nehammer with sympathizers in a wine shop, suggests that he lets his thoughts run free among his peers. In a way that was hurtful and derogatory for a Chancellor, he criticized women who work part-time and made fun of the discussion regarding child poverty in this country. This was spiced up with the tips of an aloof person. “Do you know what the cheapest hot meal in Austria is? It’s not healthy, but it’s cheap: a hamburger at McDonald’s.”
Well, now Nehammer can be outraged that a party friend recorded the statements on his cell phone and that they found their way online weeks later. This is how Sebastian Kurz once acted when messages from confiscated cell phones became known. One might also think regarding what the job of a head of government is. Defaming people is not one of them. Unless Nehammer thinks so, then he shouldn’t play his other roles anymore.
