Innsbruck (OTS) He does. Wilfried Haslauer is negotiating with the FPÖ regarding a black-blue coalition in Salzburg. Just one day following Herbert Kickl’s speech on May 1, with which this democrats taught fear, the ÖVP man announced this. The FPÖ leader has proclaimed himself a potential “people’s chancellor”, he wants to make Orbánistan out of Austria, and he wants to close down “asylum homes”. Before the election in his state, Haslauer complained regarding Kickl’s tonality, something like that existed in the 1920s. “Particular border crossings” he located. Kickl fuels a “climate of fear”. He rejects this kind of politics. Now he forges a pact with Kickl-Intima Marlene Svazek. The governor comes with all sorts of explanations as to why there is virtually no other way. For example, that the SPÖ and ÖVP only had a majority of one mandate, such an alliance would be unstable. So why doesn’t he then try a triple alliance including the Greens, which he also cited as a variant on election night? He has led one of the ÖVP, Greens and NEOS – the “Dirndl Coalition” – for the past five years.
Haslauer also notes that there are too many substantive differences with the Greens. A curious statement given that he has governed with this party for ten years. “The mood among the population” is that one should try the FPÖ, says Haslauer. It’s probably the pressure from our own ranks to join forces with the Kickl squad. Haslauer – mainly responsible for the 7.4 percent minus for the ÖVP – bowed to this. The actions of the man who is close to the Festspielhaus and not the beer tent are disappointing. It reinforces the judgment that politicians say one thing and another do it. Haslauer is 67 and does not depend on the political job. He might resign with dignity – with the indication that he is not acting once morest his conviction. He prefers reputational damage. Now he has the same impression: What do I care regarding yesterday’s principles if I can remain in power today?
