Sudden cravings for sweets, constant fatigue, low blood pressure, colds on the lips can be symptoms of a pathology called “tired adrenal cider”. About it LIFE said dietitian-endocrinologist Alena Barredo.

According to the specialist, the syndrome is characterized by a change in the function of the adrenal glands: these organs begin to produce less cortisol and adrenaline, a person’s working capacity, mood decrease, fatigue, constant drowsiness, depression appear, and immunity decreases.

“When the level of hormones decreases, the level of immune cells decreases: leukocytes, lymphocytes. Therefore, one of the symptoms of tired adrenal syndrome is frequent colds or exacerbation of chronic viral infections, such as recurrent herpes. Other symptoms of tired adrenal syndrome include low blood pressure and cravings for sweet or spicy foods. Moreover, such cravings are observed at certain hours – just when the level of cortisol, which is responsible for blood sugar levels, decreases. Accordingly, with a low level of cortisol in the blood, there is little sugar, the body requires it to be raised, an irresistible craving for sweet or spicy appears, ”commented the doctor.

Another symptom, as the endocrinologist notes, is weight loss in the face, in muscle mass. Often, tired adrenal syndrome is observed in people with chronic stress, workaholics and perfectionists, the doctor said. They deplete their body by not resting and sleeping poorly.

Pathology is dangerous because of a decrease in the function of other glands, which can cause infertility, nervous system disorders, frequent colds, exacerbation of chronic infections, the appearance of furunculosis, decreased thyroid function, Alena Barredo warned.
