Here are some other tips from Student Life.

As you prepare to leave your residence hall or apartment for the Thanksgiving break, we have compiled a list of tips to ensure your WVU homes are safe.

Students living in apartments can prepare for their Thanksgiving departure by going over this helpful tip list to ensure their apartments and items are safe.

Do not broadcast on social media that you won’t be in Morgantown.
Don’t forget to lock doors and windows, pulling blinds and curtains closed.
Make the apartment look lived in, if possible, by using programming switch timers on lights or radios. Or leave at least one light on inside the apartment.
Leave the thermostat on heat and set to a minimum of 65 degrees (or what your lease indicates). This will avoid frozen or busted pipes.
Don’t leave anything of value in your car if you are leaving it on campus.
Take any trash or perishable items out of your apartment to help prevent any unwanted pests or smells while they’re gone.
If you have pets, you should take them home and not leave them alone in the apartment.
Have a friend who is local check on your place and/or contact the Morgantown Police Department (if inside city limits) and sign up for the Vacation Home Check Program (304-284-7522, option 0) or file online.
