Tips for diabetics during fasting .. including eating vegetables and salads

The Egyptian Medicines Authority has provided many tips for diabetics, coinciding with the start of RAMADAN month Karim, to perform the duty of fasting, in the context of concern for the health status, and not to be exposed to any sudden health crises, due to fasting for long periods, and also due to the change in the dates of taking medications or insulin doses.

Tips for diabetics during fasting during Ramadan:

Consult the attending physician before the start of Ramadan, in order to determine the doses for treatment and the timing of its intake.

The patient who takes insulin doses must adjust the dose at least every three days, following measuring the blood sugar level during fasting and following breakfast, through the doctor who follows the case.

The patient measures the sugar level daily during fasting, and following eating breakfast.

Drink adequate amounts of water, from following breakfast until the suhoor meal, so that the patient is not exposed to extreme thirst.

Diabetics eat suhoor late before dawn, so as not to experience a drop in blood sugar in case of suhoor early.

Emphasizing that juices and drinks that are consumed during the iftar or suhoor period, which contain low levels of sugar.

The Iftar and Suhoor meals contain carbohydrates and fiber to provide the body with the energy it needs during fasting periods.

Foods that are high in fat, margarine and spices should be avoided.

Eating more vegetables and green salads, because they contain high levels of fiber, to help withstand fasting periods.
