To avoid bloating, the nutritionist advises eating gluten-free breads made from buckwheat or oats or even low FODMAP breads. (a group of carbohydrates). Indeed, breads rich in FODMAPs – made from barley, rye and wheat – can promote the appearance of gas and bloating: “FODMAPs are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and ferment in the colon by gut bacteria, producing gas, which can cause discomfort, bloating and cramping in people with irritable bowel syndrome or sensitivity to FODMAPs”. We must therefore favor breads less rich in FODMAPs such as sourdough bread.
As you will have understood, breads with a high FODMAP content should be avoided if you are prone to bloating. You should also avoid eating wheat bread since it causes bloating in people with gluten intolerance or those with celiac disease. In fact, gluten is poorly digested by these people and produces fermentation in their intestine, causing gas. This is what is causing your bloating. If you reduce your consumption of this type of bread, you will surely solve some of your bloating problems.
