In the winter months it is important to protect your property particularly well. Because with the cold season and the early twilight, the number of break-ins increases. To prevent this from happening in the first place – especially during the Christmas holiday season, experts recommend the following measures.

1. Mechanical safety technology

Mechanical security with locks on windows and doors forms the basis for effective burglary protection. In new buildings, you should make sure to only use windows and doors that have been tested and certified to be burglar-resistant. Tested, burglary-resistant door elements according to Ö-Norm B5338 are those from resistance class (WK) 3 with multiple locking and distance lock.

2. Electronic keys

These keys bring many advantages, for example if a key is lost. In this case it is programmable: the owner can program out the old key and program in the new one.

3. Securing windows

There are numerous retrofit products for windows to make them burglar-proof. Locking systems are installed on the inside of the window; these systems can also be locked.

4. Securing with roller shutters

Although roller shutters are not as stable as grilles, they offer a good security measure, according to experts. However, shutters left down for a longer period of time might indicate to perpetrators that no one is at home.
