Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: opening chests and strafe skeletons, it’s addictive

As a spin-off of Borderlands, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands retains that crazy spirit that is the charm of the series. Humor, loot and lots of action. We validate.

“Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands tells the journey of the Hand of Destiny through an incredible role-playing game in which few rules apply. Players can create and customize their own multi-class heroes. Then, in their quest to stop the tyrannical Dragon Lord, loot, shoot, slice and cast spells to fight their way through strange monsters and loot-filled dungeons. The chaotic fantasy world is brought to life by the unpredictable Tiny Tina, who creates the rules, changes the world as she pleases, and guides players on their journey.” So much for the pitch. And that sets the tone.

As a spin-off of Borderlands, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands retains this crazy spirit that makes the charm of the series. Humor is omnipresent, in every line, every dialogue. And the references are legion throughout the adventure. Be careful, it is better to have played “real” role-playing games and previous episodes before so that it hits the mark every time.

No gameplay surprise: the new Gearbox title is a shooter looter. Translation: you shoot hundreds of enemies and open hundreds of chests to upgrade your arsenal…so you have a chance to advance…and defeat hundreds of more powerful enemies and so on. The difficulty is well balanced provided you take the time to equip yourself correctly. And the action even more sustained than usual.

If we like the style, we are served. Firstly thanks to the incredible variety of weapons at our disposal and their totally different feeling, controller in hand, depending on their abilities. Hand-to-hand combat, to finish off opponents for example, adds a little more salt. Not to mention special spells and skills for each type of character. In short, there is something to enjoy and let off steam.

Especially since the adventure is particularly long, especially if you accept several side quests. Also as much as the decorations are inspired, varied, and flawless achievement. If graphically we do not reach heights, cell shading obliges, Gearbox masters its subject: the game is ultra-fluid in all circumstances on an Xbox Series X.

Without revolutionizing the genre, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands therefore fulfills its contract with flying colors provided that it adheres to the universe and the spirit of Borderlands. And especially to be addicted to loot. Because yes, over the course of the game, it becomes a drug to open chests, especially the most inaccessible ones which potentially contain the best material.
