The project has been in the pipeline for Pré en Bulle since 2019. Four years later, the first tiny house was inaugurated this Friday followingnoon in the institution’s garden, rue de Sesselich in Arlon. A building with an area of 30 m2 consisting of a living room, a bedroom and a shower room, and also equipped with air conditioning which is very pleasant in these hot weather. It has been occupied since July by a 16-year-old girl who has lived in Pré en Bulles for many years.

Pré en Bulles welcomes 18 to 19 children aged 3 to 18 in danger or experiencing social and family difficulties. Children placed by the Arlon Youth Assistance Service (SAJ) and the Youth Protection Service (SPJ). With the aim of returning to family or living independently for the young person.

Semi-autonomous

“This tiny house is a transitional accommodation, a springboard, a progressive preparation for managing a home and an independent lifeindicates Alain Deworme, president of the CPAS of Arlon who supported this project financially and humanly. The tiny avoids creating a huge gap between the institution and adult life.

The proximity to Pré en Bulles does not give young people the impression of being abandoned in the city. They are also not faced with the loneliness of finding themselves in a kot. This time in the tiny house will allow him to get to know himself better, and the educational team will be able to target specific work to carry out with him.”

Thanks to donations

A project worth a total of €52,151 carried out with the support of ASBL 155. “Our objective has been, since 1995, to support the young people of Pré en Bulles in preparing for their autonomy in a kot. Thanks to the donations we receive, we can help young people to leave independently before they reach the age of majority. We are fortunate to be able to count on recurring donations to operate.”notes Anne-Sophie Adam, president of ASBL 155.

Several non-profit organizations also contributed to financing the tiny house: Sablonnière, the Henri and Ghislaine fund, Kiwanis, the Christmas market, Arlon Centre-Ville, the Inter service club, Ladies Circles as well as donations from the bride and groom of the City asked during their civil union to make a gesture for this project with an amount raised of nearly €8,000.

A tiny second in 2024

The building which houses Pré en Bulles has had several previous functions. “We are often described as a home but we prefer the formula of a Children’s Home. Our home celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018. It was first an orphanage, then a family home managed by the congregation of the Sisters of Luxembourg until 1982, giving way to a professional team which took over”recalls Vincent Louis, the director of Pré en Bulles.

A second tiny house, smaller with a capacity of 20 m2, will be built next to the first. The foundations have already been poured and construction is expected to begin early next year.
