Self-cleaning station, dirt detection, app connection and high cleaning performance: The Tineco Floor One S5 is a wet and dry vacuum cleaner for high demands. In our test, we explain the advantages and disadvantages of the device.
Scope of delivery and commissioning
In addition to the wet and dry vacuum cleaner, you will also find the charging and self-cleaning station, suitable cleaning agents and a replacement brush and a replacement filter in the scope of delivery. The workmanship of the device is impeccable and, not unimportant for a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, the water tank is also absolutely leak-proof.
Very cool: The vacuum cleaner can stand in the charging station and does not have to be attached to the wall – so you don’t need to use a drill and commissioning is correspondingly easy: set it up, connect it, charge it and you’re almost ready to go. “Almost” because the Tineco Floor One S5 should first be linked to the manufacturer’s app, which was also done in one minute in our test.
A wet and dry vacuum cleaner with app control? What initially sounds like a superfluous gimmick is quite practical in everyday life. In the app you can check the battery status of the device, adjust the volume of the voice announcements and initiate the self-cleaning process – more on this below. The voice announcements of the device can also be set to “German” in the app – you only have to download the corresponding language pack for this.
Now all you have to do is fill up the 0.8 liter fresh water tank, then you can start cleaning.
handling and cleaning performance
After we switched on the Tineco for the first time with the control button on the handle, we were almost a little shocked: The wet and dry vacuum cleaner supports the wiping movements of the user with a motor, so it “dizzes” off automatically. That was a bit irritating when you first switched it on, but it’s really comfortable in everyday life because the wiping process is much easier – great!
The Tineco combines three work steps in one: the floor is vacuumed, mopped and dried. The device uses a sensor to detect the type of floor and the degree of soiling and automatically adjusts the suction and wiping performance. This worked surprisingly well in our test, but you can of course also make the appropriate settings manually.
Thorough cleaning and good manoeuvrability
We were also pleasantly surprised by the cleaning performance. In contrast to most vacuum and mopping robots, which still have various weaknesses in the “mopping” discipline (especially if they only pull a damp cloth under them), the Floor One S5 cleans the floor in an absolutely exemplary manner. Even stubborn dirt is reliably removed and ends up in the 0.7 liter waste water container, which can be easily removed and emptied. After cleaning, the floor is not immediately completely dry – a damp film remains, but this disappears following a few minutes. We did not notice any stripes in our test – the device also works perfectly in this respect.
The battery lasted around 30 minutes in our test, following which the device had to be placed back on the charging station.
Unlike some competing products we’ve looked at in the past, the brush is positioned to clean the edges as well. The handle of the device lies securely in the hand, overall the cleaner can be easily maneuvered through the apartment or house – the self-propelled wheels mentioned above ensure a high level of comfort. However, the wet and dry vacuum cleaner has to fit under narrow furniture: Due to the water tank, the device is too large for this, these areas can be reached better by a (low) vacuum robot.
The battery status of the Tineco Floor One S5 can of course not only be read in the app, but also on the device’s large LED display. The set suction and wiping power is also displayed here during cleaning.
The wet and dry vacuum cleaner not only cleans the floor, but also itself
A highlight is the charging station, which also takes care of cleaning the wet and dry vacuum cleaner if necessary. If the self-cleaning process is triggered, the Tineco automatically cleans the brush roller and the water channels in the device. The process is quite loud (roughly comparable to a classic vacuum cleaner) but is completed following a few minutes.
Impeccable cleaning performance (including good edge cleaning), good maneuverability and a convenient self-cleaning station: with all that light, are there shadows? Well, of course, the wet and dry vacuum cleaner does not automatically clean the floor like vacuum and mopping robots do (however, the cheaper devices in particular often do not do a good job when mopping). So you have to take your time cleaning the floor, but you will be well supported by the device – the Tineco Floor One S5 does not have any weaknesses worth mentioning. However, we do have one point of criticism: the battery cannot be replaced and will lose capacity over the years. With a view to sustainability (and your own wallet), we would have wished that the manufacturer had used a replaceable battery.
Tineco Floor One S5 in the test: our verdict
The wet and dry vacuum cleaner was able to convince in our test with a very good cleaning performance. Thanks to the self-propelled wheels and the self-cleaning station, the user is comfortably supported when cleaning the floor. But the convenience has its price: around 520 euros are currently being charged for the device Amazon* due. There is also a point deduction for the battery, which unfortunately cannot be replaced.
