Announced by its parent company, Match Group, this AI feature is designed to address a common challenge users face when writing their dating profile: selecting the most representative photos.

According to the CEO of Match Group, people are often uncomfortable when it comes to choosing the photos that best reflect their personality. The AI-powered solution aims to alleviate this problem by automatically selecting a set of five photos from the user’s album.

Improve relevance of profile content

AI can help users create more authentic and compelling profiles. Match Group is also investigating other AI capabilities that are expected to be implemented in the future. One of them is leveraging AI to improve the relevance of content for users, to improve their overall experience on the app.

More attractive profiles thanks to AI

A recent study by Tinder showed that a large portion of its members expressed interest in using generative AI to improve their profile creation.

To that end, Tinder’s chief product officer hinted at other possibilities for AI integration, such as using generative AI to help users write engaging biographical descriptions. This might be especially useful for people who have trouble describing themselves effectively.

Avoiding Misuse of AI

Match Group, however, recognizes the need for a cautious approach to AI in the context of dating. Kim stressed the importance of considering issues of ethics, privacy and authenticity. The risk of misuse, such as scam and deception, highlights the need for responsible AI implementation.

Extensive verification at the entrance

In response to these challenges, Tinder has already introduced an AI-powered verification feature that asks users to submit a video selfie, which helps distinguish genuine profiles from potential bots or scammers.

The online dating industry has seen strong growth in the integration of AI. Besides Tinder, other platforms have adopted AI to improve user engagement. Teaser AI, for example, allows users to engage in AI-assisted conversations with potential partners before taking action. Flame has introduced an AI-powered “Ask Me Anything” tool to provide dating advice to users. Among the less conventional apps is Blush, an AI-assisted dating sim where users interact with AI avatars.
