Tina Turner fell in love with her husband Erwin Bach when he delivered her a new Mercedes from her manager.
The ‘Private Dancer’ singer, who died of natural causes on May 24 at the Swiss compound she shared with the German music producer, first met Erwin in 1985, seven years following filing her divorce from her first. husband, Ike Turner, who abused her.
In her surprisingly candid memoir, “My Love Story,” she recounts how Erwin delivered an expensive thank you gift to her from her manager Roger Davies.
“That week in 1985, my next tour date was in Cologne, Germany,” she wrote. “As my manager, Roger, and I arrived by plane, I was tired and a bit depressed thinking regarding the grueling schedule ahead of me. We were walking through the airport when a young man came out from behind a column to greet us. I thought it was a fan, but Roger greeted him warmly.
Erwin Bach, an executive from EMI, my record company in Europe, had come to give me a surprise gift from Roger – a new Mercedes jeep, the G-Wagon, which was hard to get.”
Tina adds that she immediately fell in love with Erwin: “But the real surprise was not the car, it was the man. My heart suddenly started beating BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, drowning every other sound. My hands were freezing. That’s what you call love at first sight, I thought to myself.
