German striker Timo Werner has left Chelsea and returned to RB Leipzig. The player signed a four-year contract with the club. The contract amount is thirty million dollars.
Timo Werner came to Chelsea from German club RB Leipzig in 2020. Chelsea brought Werner to the team for fifty million dollars. Twenty-six-year-old Werner is Leipzig’s all-time top scorer. Werner scored 95 goals between 2016 and 2020. After a good start at Chelsea, Werner decided to return to his old club when opportunities dwindled.
Werner, who scored eight goals in the first twelve matches of 2020, managed to score only four goals in the remaining matches of that season. The arrival of Romalu Lukaku last year and coach Thomas Touchel’s increased focus on Kai Havertz as a central striker has been a setback for Werner. Werner scored 23 goals in 89 games for Chelsea. Werner also contributed to Chelsea winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. Chelsea won once morest Everton in the first match of the Premier League, but Werner was not included in the team. Werner is returning to his old club with the aim of getting a place in Germany’s World Cup squad. Werner said he wanted to become the first player to score 100 goals for Leipzig.
