The list of the best beaches in Greece is the result of extensive research by the Times’ journalistic team and shows the beauties of our country from end to end.
The popular British media reports characteristically “as you would expect from the country with the longest coastline in the Mediterranean, Greece has a seemingly countless number of beaches. From the shores of the mainland to the sands and coves of its myriad islands and islets, holidaymakers are faced with summer’s most beautiful dilemma and choose between sand parties, secluded coves, beach sunsets and water sports in blue-green waters”.
The Cyclades stand out in the Times list of “champions” with nine beaches in Naxos, Mykonos, Koufonisia, Antiparos, Andros, Ios, Kea and Tinos offered for off-the-beaten-path experiences, swimming in emerald waters, youthful excursions and intense emotions.
Next are the Dodecanese Islands with seven beautiful beaches in Rhodes, Leipsos, Astypalaia, Patmos and Karpathos, ideal for isolation, family moments or intense musical rhythms. “OR Karpathos preserves its natural and cultural “treasures” unchanged. The turquoise waters remain untouched and pristine and our visitors from Greece, Europe, America and other distant markets come to experience unique experiences through hiking, diving, traditions, climbing and gastronomy,” said the Deputy Mayor of Tourism Municipality Karpathou Tassos Milios.
“OR Andros emerges as one of the last oases of authenticity without over-tourism in the Cyclades. It is encouraging to see an increase in traffic during off-peak periods. The beaches are a “magnet” for families, couples and groups united by their love for nature, activities and the environment. This is exactly our message through constant promotion efforts” explains the Mandated Municipal Councilor for Tourism of the Municipality of Andros, Nikos Moustakas.
“Through targeted actions the Alonissos is placed on the international tourist “map” as an exotic paradise of Greece. Even the emerald waters that visitors can enjoy on its shores are part of the largest natural marine park of the Mediterranean. But the uniqueness also extends under the water, offering a rich seabed for exploration along with the first underwater museum in Greece” emphasizes the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Alonissos and tourist agent, Diogenis Theodorou.
