(From Quito, Ecuador) – The murder of prosecutor César Suárez has shocked the country that is experiencing a state of emergency due to internal armed conflict, as decreed by President Daniel Noboa. The timeline presented by the Police begins at 12:52 (Ecuador time) on January 17, 2024. At that moment, Suárez left the Guayaquil Judicial Police and went to his home, which he entered at 12: 56. Just a few minutes later, at 1:07 p.m., Suárez’s vehicle leaves the urbanization where he lived. At 1:33 p.m., on Avenida del Firero, the car is intercepted by a truck and a Changan brand vehicle. That was when the assassination happened.
However, that afternoon, Suárez was not supposed to leave his home because he would attend a hearing electronically. A relative of the prosecutor reported that her relative left her house because she received an urgent call asking her to go to a destination that Suárez did not reveal to her relatives: “They trick him out of it to take his life,” the woman told EFE. Furthermore, the woman said that the judicial official “only contributed good things to this society by wanting to seek justice, investigating very important cases,” which is why he demands justice for his family member. The Argentine minister refers to Suárez. This Friday morning a memorandum from the Attorney General’s Office of Ecuador began to circulate dating from January 17, the same day of the murder.
