In the memories of Kochi Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, Mattannur Sankarankutty is often mentioned. Kavalam’s son Kavalam Sreekumar sang along with ‘Sree Palkadalil Palligavalum Navamukunda’ and it was full of enjoyment. ‘Kalatheetham Kavalam’ event was organized in Changampuzha Park with the memories of Kavalam Narayana Panikkar. After decades, Mattannur was broken. Mattannur Shankarankutty recalled that Kavalam Narayanapanikar was the guru who inspired the next generation to learn and teach Kerala rhythms and tribal arts. He traveled all over Kerala in the 1960s when he was the secretary of Sangeetha Natak Academy and recorded and preserved Kerala rhythms. Mattannur Shankarankutty said that it will be found and saved. Velayudhapanikar presided. Sopanam Secretary Kalyani Krishnan, Sanal Potti, Dr. KG Paulus, Kavalam Sreekumar, Nedumudi Harikumar, Sushila Nedumudi Venu, Changampuzha Park Secretary TG Ravi, P Prakash, Dr. Sanjivan Azhikode and Kichu Aryad spoke. V Girishan and Mohini Vinayan presented the Sopanathilakam award. Honored senior members. The ceremony started with Sushila, the wife of late actor Nedumudi Venu, singing Kavalam’s poem ‘Svarnath Dukham’.
