This time from the left no criticism of the magazine’s front page. Here Kamala recalls the historic photo of the Indian chief Red Horse

If «Time» opens with Harris in Native American guise, it is all well and good, while if «Time» does so, it is racist, divisive and so on. The main American weekly, in fact, focused its August 12 cover on the Indian origins of the candidate for the White House, underlining her resemblance to «Red Horse», a tribal chief of the colonial period.

There are no explicit references from American colleagues, but it is clear that the graphics, the choice of colors and the pose used have the purpose of highlighting the similarities between Biden’s vice and the native subject of several western films. The one who notices this in Italy is the journalist Francesco Magnani, summer host of the program “L’Aria che Tira”, who, intervening on the US presidential elections, underlines how the left, which on August 7th had declared itself “indignant” following our front page, this time does not utter a word.

When the Piazza Colonna newspaper emphasizes the candidates’ origins in the States, it is “controversy”, while when the stars and stripes press does it, lips remain sealed. Not even the writer Dacia Maraini, guest of the talk, when asked about the issue, prefers not to issue a verdict.

The question that arises spontaneously, therefore, is this: where has the tribunal of the inquisition of the comrades, of the red intellectuals, of those who see discrimination everywhere, gone this time? The director of Tempo Tommaso Cerno, on the other hand, had underlined how the controversy raised did not make much sense: «Our title was born because the polls say that Kamala is aiming at all Americans and not only at her original community, which we are not interested in at all. The headdress used by the natives has always been a symbol of all minorities».

This is why the Democratic candidate, according to our reading, is recruiting personalities capable of gathering consensus even among those groups of citizens, little considered by public opinion, but decisive when it comes to voting.
