Time has come for Afghanistan to follow through on assurances to stop attacks: Pakistan

Pakistan And Afghanistan In the context of border clashes and tension Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Thursday that Afghanistan has assured that Afghan territory will not be used against any country including Pakistan, but Pakistan believes that the time has come to implement these assurances.

On July 2, on the sidelines of the ongoing Doha Conference in Qatar, leaders of Afghanistan’s interim government held a meeting with Pakistani officials, which was seen as a step towards ending tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Speaking to Independent Urdu on this subject, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that the territory of Afghanistan should not be used for terrorist activities against any country including Pakistan, as assured by Zabihullah Mujahid in the Doha Conference recently. It has been agreed that the land of Afghanistan will not be used against Pakistan.

He said that ‘Afghanistan’s leadership has given an assurance, but we think the time has come to implement this assurance.’

He further said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are in touch with each other on matters of mutual concern. At the Doha Conference, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Asif Durrani also discussed Pakistan-Afghanistan border issues and informed the Afghan leadership of his concerns.

“Pakistan wants peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and a reduction in the number of Afghan lands used against terrorism in the region.” Pakistan has said all these things in the Doha Conference as well.

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan reached a peak in March this year, when Pakistan carried out airstrikes against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan, two days after seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in attacks in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The TTP has gained a boost since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, with top leaders and militants hiding in Afghanistan, according to Pakistani officials.

‘Pakistan does not believe in block politics’

He said that ‘we wish to have strong relations not only with Russia but also with other countries in the region.’

However, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office clarified that ‘Pakistan is not a part of any bloc, Pakistan does not believe in bloc politics, we believe in relations with mutual respect.’

‘British elections are his personal matter’

Around a dozen candidates of Pakistani origin are participating in the British elections.

Commenting on this, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office said that we are proud of the Pakistanis living in the UK, they have made a positive contribution to the British society and our best wishes are with them.

“But as far as the UK election is concerned, that is an internal matter for them. It is hoped that the elections that are taking place will be positive for the development and stability of the United Kingdom.
